During the Spring Break 2012, the Piano Dept. went on their third European trip. Students Taylor Bennett, Mawusi Nenonene and Teryn Barker along with Mrs. Matthews and four adults traveled for 9 days to London, Paris, Florence and Rome.
London highlights:
- Walking in the procession in Westminster Abbey during Palm Sunday
- Visiting Buckingham Palace
- Taking an evening Harry Potter tour
- Seeing Big Ben
- Riding the Eurostar train to Paris
Paris highlights:
- Taking a cruise on the Seine River
- Visiting the palace of Versailles
- Visiting Montmartre - the artist hill in Paris
- Seeing the Mona Lisa during our visit to the Louvre
- Seeing the Eiffel Tower at night
- Touring Notre Dame Cathedral
- Spending the night on an overnight train to Florence
Florence Highlights:
- Seeing a leather demonstration
- Visiting the Duomo
Assisi Highlights:
- Visiting an olive oil factory and a chocolate factory; dark chocolate and hot chilies make agreat taste!
- Visiting the Basilica of St. Francis and seeing where he is buried
- Learning the history of St. Francis, the patron saint of animals
Rome Highlights:
- Seeing Michaelangelo's painting of the Sistine Chapel
- Walking around the Roman Colosseum and the Roman Forum and seeing where Julius Caesar once ruled his empire
- Having items we purchased blessed by the Pope
- Seeing the Pope and hearing him give his sermong the Saturday evening before Easter
- Taking an evening tour of Rome by visiting the famous fountains. We ended the evening tour by throwing coins into the Trevi Fountain, build in 1732. Tradition has it that if your coins land in the fountain, you will return to Rome someday.
- Walking 6-8 miles daily with intention!
Our 2013 Spring trip will take the Piano Dept. students to Paris, Brussels, Amsterdam, Lubeck, and Copenhagen. Call Mrs. Matthews if you have any questions at 427-2138.
