
Stivers Teacher Honored as Scholar
The head of the Stivers piano department has been selected for a prestigious summer fellowship by the National Endowment for the Humanities.
Henrietta (Cissy) Matthews was named an NEH Summer Scholar, chosen to attend one of the program’s 30 study opportunities. Matthews will participate in “Johann Sebastian Bach: Celebrating the 325th Anniversary of His Birth.” The four-week program will be held in Eisenach, Leipzig and Potsdam, Germany and includes morning lectures, tours and small group work on curriculum development.
As one of 25 teachers selected nationwide for the Bach institute, Matthews will receive an NEH stipend of $3,300 to cover a large portion of travel, study and living expenses.
